Grand défi Pierre Lavoie | Our team will ride for youth

Close-up April 17, 2025

For the third year in a row, we will be taking part in the legendary Grand défi Pierre Lavoie (GDPL) 1,000 km cycling challenge from June 12 to 15 in Quebec City.

Last year, the GDPL raised over $2.7 million to promote healthy lifestyle habits among youth and support research on rare hereditary diseases.

Our participation in the event aligns with our ambition to be present in our community and support the total wellbeing of Canadians. Members of our team will be able to put their passion to work for the common good.

Riding 1,000 km for young people

Five Group Benefits and Retirement Solutions (GBRS) employees will be taking part in the 1,000 km challenge, a major cycling marathon that is one of several GDPL activities.

Some 1,200 cyclists will participate in the event, covering an average of 400 kilometres over 60 hours through several rides in the Greater Quebec City area countryside.

Each team will also sponsor one elementary school to help promote healthy living. We are proud to sponsor École des Petits-Explorateurs in Longueuil and will be donating a portion of the funds we raise to this school.

In 2024, GDPL cyclists supported 298 elementary schools.

The team’s objective for this third showing is to live an extraordinary personal experience, to embody the values advocated by our organization and to contribute to projects that support youth wellbeing.

Gabriel Auclair,Analyst, Business Process, is passionate about cycling and its many physical and mental benefits. He believes it’s vital to make young people aware of the benefits of a physical activity that they love.

Krystel Duchesne, Product Owner, Finance, is always enthusiastic about a sporting challenge. She’s even more enthusiastic when it’s for a good cause, and going the extra mile allows her to combine business with pleasure.

Anthony Ferrarini, Manager, IT, feels it’s important to promote a healthy and active lifestyle and show young people the importance of physical activity and determination.

Adam Lamhamedi, Manager, Business Solutions, loves cycling and rising to a challenge. He sees the GDPL as an opportunity to promote physical activity and healthy habits to the next generation.

Finally, Frédéric Leblanc, Strategic Leader, Drug Programs, feels that the benefits of physical activity are undeniable and that the GDPL makes it possible to promote that to young people. After all, intervening early in people’s lives can have a considerable impact on society.
