Addressing the challenges of obesity in the workplace offers many opportunities for organizations to take positive action, both for their own financial health and for the total wellbeing of their employees.
This is the message presented by Jade Bellemare, Director, Communication and Marketing, Group Benefits and Retirement Solutions, in a recent article in Human Resources Director (HRD) magazine entitled Tackling obesity: a workplace imperative.
Drawing on our recent white paper Managing obesity: a shared commitment, Ms. Bellemare describes the tactics and tools that plan sponsors can use to better understand obesity and help their members manage this chronic and complex disease.
An integrated approach
Managing obesity, rather than simply encouraging weight loss, requires an integrated approach aimed at improving total wellbeing combined with communication and education for staff and company management, says Jade Bellemare.
When members are informed about the solutions and services available, they can better understand how their plan can support them, she concludes.
