Pharmacogenomics | New partnership with Biron

A person’s response to medication plays a very important role. When a treatment does not produce the expected outcome or causes side effects, it can affect a person’s quality of life, wellbeing and ability to function on a daily basis. It can even contribute to absenteeism or disability.

That is why we have partnered with Biron to make pharmacogenomic tests more accessible to our group insurance plan members.

A more personalized approach to care

Pharmacogenomics analyzes how a person’s genetic profile influences their response to certain medications. The information it provides can guide treatment decisions and support total wellbeing.

Pharmacogenomic testing helps take the guesswork out of treatment for various conditions, including:

  • Mental health problems
  • Chronic pain
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Certain cardiovascular diseases

Preferred pricing and reimbursement

  • Our group insurance plan members and their dependents have access to an $82 discount when purchasing an eligible Biron pharmacogenomic test.
  • The cost of the test may be reimbursed if the plan covers pharmacogenomic tests or includes a health spending account (HSA). This coverage is also available to new groups on an opt-in basis.

Benefits of pharmacogenomic testing

For organizations

  • Supports employee wellbeing and helps build a healthier, more motivated and productive workforce
  • Helps reduce the impact of absenteeism and disability
  • Gives employees access to a personalized, innovative solution

For plan members

  • Helps guide treatment choices that are better suited to each person’s biology
  • Supports better treatment outcomes and helps reduce adverse drug reactions
  • Provides lifelong insight, since a person’s genetic profile does not change

This partnership can enrich your interactions with clients and provide a real opportunity to promote health spending accounts (HSAs) or coverage for pharmacogenomic tests.

It is part of our commitment to proactively offer you innovative solutions that help your clients create workplaces that foster health and wellbeing.
